ENVIROSIGHT JOINS SEARCH FOR DRU SJODIN, MISSING GRAND FORKS, ND STUDENT.
Grand Forks, ND---December 19, 2003---When tragedy strikes, Envirosight volunteers people and equipment to aid investigative and relief efforts. That call came in last December, when National Guardsmen searching for missing student Dru Sjodin sought the help of Envirosight's Kevin Prodoehl, who used a QuickView zoom camera to search the bed of the Red River through holes drilled in its frozen surface. Sjodin, a 22 year-old Grand Forks, ND resident, was last seen November 22 leaving her job at a local mall. The search was performed under the Thompson bridge, approximately 10 miles south of Grand Forks, after a shoe of the missing student was found on a river bank near the bridge.
Despite the river's murky water, QuickView maintained several feet of visibility, furnishing valuable color video footage that allowed the National Guard to rule out the presence of a body or other evidence in the search area. Wearing life vests and insulated clothes, Prodoehl and the National Guard withstood 20 m.p.h. winds and 0 deg F weather to perform the searches through hundreds of drilled holes, often submerging the camera to depths as great as 25 ft.
