ENVIROSIGHT INSPECTS STRUCTURE OF LINCOLN MONUMENT, GATHERING DATA FOR PRESERVATION EFFORTS.
Washington, DC---July 31, 2003---A firm contracted to perform structural studies of the aging Lincoln Memorial chose Envirosight to gather visual data from the building's hidden interior cavities. This data was used to determine the feasibility and scope of several structural renovations under consideration.
The cavities in question were long, narrow (6" wide) vents extending upward from the monument's basement to its mezzanine. The vents run between structural walls and the interior walls that bear the monument's murals and inscriptions. From the mezzanine, trained Envirosight technicians lowered an illuminated pan/tilt camera on a 160' pushpole, documenting mortar condition and debris in all of 12 vents. Highlights of the inspection, along with digital images and a written report, were forwarded to the client within days for review.
